چکیده

– Networked workstations have emerged as an increasingly popular style of computation. Spurred by advances in computational capability and network bandwidth, they offer cost–effective computation. Because of the fine–grained, loosely coupled nature of the hardware, an agent–based system to monitor program performance can be used to harness the aggregate capability of workstations efficiently, rapidly, automatically, and with minimal intrusiveness. In the Hector distributed run–time environment, the agents that run on each candidate platform are called “slave allocators”, and they forward commands from the central allocation system, monitor system availability and loading, and can transparently extract detailed performance information from programs as they run. The overall architecture of the agent–based allocation system is detailed, as are testing and results that demonstrate its efficiency, low overhead, and utility. Measurements of the overhead of allocation, control, migration, and performance instrumentation are included.

Meta-Reasoning For a Distributed Agent Architecture

Agent based computing offers the ability to decentralize computing solutions by incorporating autonomy and intelligence into cooperating, distributed applications. It provides an effective medium for expressing solutions to problems that involve interaction with real-world environments and allows modelling of the world state and its dynamics. This model can be then used to determine how candida...

Performance Prediction Technology for Agent-Based Resource Management in Grid Environments

Resource management constitutes an important infrastructural component of a computational grid environment. The aim of grid resource management is to efficiently schedule applications over the available resources provided by the supporting grid architecture. Such goals within the high performance community rely, in part, on accurate performance prediction capabilities. This paper introduces a r...

A Conceptual Framework for Agent-Based Information Resource Management

The information systems manager is often constrained by maintaining a certain threshold amount of memory for an organization. However, this requires more than technical and managerial resolutions, encompassing knowledge management for the group, eliciting tacit knowledge from the end users, and pattern and time series analyses of utilization for various applications. This paper proposes a frame...
